After a long journey (>8 hours) mainly with snow, traffic jam and so on, we finally arrived in ‘Wald am Arlberg’ where we stopped for a couple of days. Barely arrived we were very well welcomed by the tourism office crew (Julia & Nathalie. Thanks girls!).
1/ Sonnenkopf / Klostertal
…is a quite small resort in Arlberg with a very nice riding potential. (Trees, BC, freeride, etc.)
And an epic powder… It’s been snowing for few days before we arrived, not much but enough to get a perfect powder day. Indeed, we didn’t get much good weather but such an awesome powder. Because of the lack of visibility we mainly spent our first 2 days in the forest, doing tree riding. Very Good but attention because, in Austria you can’t go riding wherever you want. There are many ‘protected areas’ where you are not allowed to ski because of the animal/environmental protection.
You could be fined of up to € 5,000. (Aïeuuu!)
Finally we got a sunny day! We could finally discover the all potential of the resort. On the Backside, we discovered such a crazy spot. A nice mix of good freeride lines, pillows an so on. To come back to the resort at the end of the run, we had to take a shuttle.
To conclude this good riding day, we had to go, of course at the traditional ‘Austrian Après-ski’ pronounces « Après-she » @ Kelobar! Live concert, beers & schnaps and the last but not least: SKI SHOES!
